Level 2 – Low Intermediate: I can make simple sentences and can understand the main points of a conversation but need much more vocabulary
Level 3 – Intermediate: I can speak and understand reasonably well and can use basic tenses but have problems with more complex grammar and vocabulary
Level 4 – Upper Intermediate: I can communicate without much difficulty but still make quite a lot of mistakes and misunderstand sometimes
Level 5 – Pre-advanced: I speak and understand well but still make mistakes and fail to make myself understood occasionally.
This intensive course is ideal for managers and specialists from oil and gas industry who wish to improve their business language and professional skills in a commercial context in the shortest possible time. Typically, participants will have several years professional working experience and already be established in their chosen career.
This highly intensive course is hands-on and task based, with frequent role-plays and simulations designed to develop essential language skills. Some activities involve DVD recordings for analysis with regular feedback to help you focus on specific areas of need. The course content is relevant and up-to-date. Our visiting guest speakers from leading oil companies will help to bring external expertise and insight into the programme. Everything you do will be practical, realistic and useful; the small groups ensure attention to individual needs. In addition to the benefits outlined above, you can expect to manage meetings and negotiations more effectively, improve your presentation skills, expand your oil business vocabulary, use the telephone with greater confidence as well as being able to discuss oil industry trends or business matters with greater confidence.
Course content Course participants can expect the following areas to be covered in the course:
Industry-specific roleplays and extended oil business vocabulary including oil exploration and production, transportation, refining, trading, financing and marketing.
Presentation of one's own work, organisation and products/services
Communication in a professional environment
Simulated negotiations and business meetings
Aspects of a company's business – eg marketing, finance, production and distribution
Handling personnel matters – eg industrial relations, communication at work
Case studies and discussions, including visual case studies
Analysis of a company's strengths and weaknesses, general and financial
Communication in an international context including intercultural understanding
Presenting figures and graphs and describing industry trends
Comparing company culture and national economies
We aim to give participants greater confidence in taking part in and chairing business meetings and negotiations. Therefore we cover appropriate communication strategies such as:
agreeing and disagreeing
interrupting
clarifying and confirming
asking for comments
summarising
asking appropriate questions
challenging/defending an opinion
persuading and compromising
making proposals, offers, suggestions
opening/closing meetings
Professional hospitality, entertaining visitors and handling social situations are important for many business people, as is confidence when using the telephone. Areas covered would therefore include:
meeting and greeting
receiving visitors
socialising
using the telephone effectively
practice in communicating more complex ideas and discussing problems
social, political and environmental issues
dealing with enquiries and offering advice
travel arrangements, bookings and reservations
giving and understanding directions
restaurants and pubs
intercultural talks and sense of humour
small talk
We also dedicate enough time, particularly for Levels 2-3, on grammar and on business written communications, explaining the difference between official and not official written English and teach how to prepare official letters. We have international groups of delegates. So whatever you do, going for a lunch or a drink with your classmates, or sightseeing on weekends, you’ll still keep practising your English. We believe that 2 weeks you spend with our teachers on our course will give you more than 2 years of remote studying or attending part-time courses in your home country.

Participation Fee: Standard Package (without accommodation) – 2 400 British Pounds (+17,5% VAT) includes:
72 hours of studying (10 days, Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 18:00)
