Demurrage and Laytime Calculation, International workshop 27 - 29 April 2010, London

Demurrage and Laytime Calculation
3-day international course
27-29 April 2010

One of the most contentious aspects of both vessel chartering and oil sale and purchase contracts is laytime and demurrage. It is therefore essential that all those involved in an oil trading contract, trader, charterer, oil and shipping operator and demurrage analyst understand the intricacies of laytime and demurrage.

This course will guide you through the complexities of laytime and demurrage calculations and provide clarification and insight into exceptions and interruptions of laytime and benefit all those who have responsibility for avoiding costly contractual mistakes. For example, how many costly problems can arise when cargoes are traded without adequate regard for the differences between the terms of the sales contracts and the charter parties?

Course is divided into two parts:

Part 1: 27 April – overview of laytime calculations, charter parties, demurrage analysis and look at the basics of tanker and contract demurrage.

Part 2: 28-29 April – expands on both the common and not so common issues; in-depth analysis of charter party clauses; minimising on demurrage exposure and maximising on demurrage collection with reviews of case law that determines successful demurrage resolution as well as giving delegates a greater awareness of many aspects of this very important subject.
